Electrical devices convert the electrical energy carried by the charges into other types of energy such as heat, sound, and motion. Components in the appliance resist the flow of charge and are referred to as resistors. In this unit1 you will understand what resistance is, the factors that affect the resistance and the relationship between resistance and current.

Most of us use electricity every day in many different ways so it is important that we understand the dangers, or hazards, associated with electricity and we know how to use it safely.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are quality, free educational resources, that you can use without having to ask for permission, and that can be adapted to better suit local contexts and needs.

Many educators and developers don't know how to efficiently search for and identity useful resources. Some throw up their hands in horror and give up when tasked with finding suitable resources on the Internet. In this tutorial, we are committed to providing you with a search strategy for open content to ensure that you quickly find open resources. Let us begin!

On completion of this unit of study you will be able to:

• Decipher open licenses i.e. identify rights and permissions contained within Creative Commons licences attached to open content.
• Search for open content using common tools and filters such as on Google Advanced Search and the YouTube Creative Commons filter, as well as specialized services such as Creative Commons Search to find open media.

When a circuit is connected and complete, charge can move through the circuit. Charge will not move unless there is a reason, a force to drive it around the circuit. Think of it as though charge is at rest and some- thing has to push it along. This means that work needs to be done to make charge move. A force acts on the charges, doing work, to make them move.
