The main differences between an image and a shadow include the following:
- An image is formed by the intersection of light rays whereas a shadow is formed when light cannot pass through an object
- Images can be seen when light enters a person's eyes whereas no light enters a person's eye to see the shadow
- Images provide colour, shape and structure to the observer whereas a shadow provides no colour and structure
- Images can be straight or inverted whereas a shadow cannot be inverted
